How I Raise & Socialize Puppies

I take puppy placement VERY seriously!

Every litter produced here has the same end goal of producing physically and mentally sound puppies with the inherent skills and temperament that will allow them to be good hunting and family dogs. Within these parameters each of my litters are bred with a slightly different objective in mind. Our pups are started using the Biosensor program for early neurological development (ENS) and they go through extensive socialization while they are in my home to allow them to become the best puppy they can be. All puppies are raised in my home, underfoot, with kids and adult dogs to help them learn.
Boldness and confidence are mostly genetic, but I continue to develop these traits by exposing pups to normal daily life in our home: children, obstacles, birds, water, and crate training (begun around 3 weeks) Around 4-5 weeks pups are taken for car rides and daily walks and romps in the yard and learn to come with me/go with me and the basics of being a good bird dog are started during those walks. Field trial pups begin learning to stay to the front.

There ARE NO PICK PUPPIES in my litters. Rather, there are only "best fit" puppies and to this end I work very hard to find the best pick for each family. Around 6-9 weeks, pups are evaluated for certain traits and I will work with new owners to help place them in their "pick" home. For an additional fee per week/month I can offer to keep your puppy and start them on birds or do basic obedience/crate training/housebreaking if prearranged

Getting a SOUTHPAW Puppy

My list begins to form when I have a breeding planned. As mentioned above, not all litters are the same and they will not be "one size fits all." I will happily refer to another breeder if I don't have what you're looking for. I take $300 *refundable deposits once a litter is confirmed via ultrasound. Once puppies are born, the fee is no longer refundable (unless we don't have the correct M/F ratio) and will go towards the price of your puppy. Puppies are between $2000-2500 depending on the litter. Males and females are the same price--all puppies are the same price whether they are performance, pet, full or limited status. Certain discounts may be applied, but will be discussed on an individual basis. A dog is an investment and you are purchasing a puppy from a well-established bloodline and knowledgeable breeder/mentor. My dogs are healthy, mentally and physically sound and they will do the job as advertised whether it be hanging with your kids or putting in 60+ days of hunting a year. Every puppy comes with a Health Guarantee against known purely genetic diseases that cause life limiting illness.

Why choose a field line Weimaraner?

Regardless of if you are an avid hunter, weekend warrior, or just looking for a canine pal to take to your kid's soccer game, a field bred dog is a great choice. Many people assume that field dogs are hyper or higher strung, and this is simply not true. Consider that most working dogs will spend 90% of the time in their homes, relaxing with family and being asked for self control. For this reason, temperament is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing when breeding hunting/working dogs. A dog who is "up" all the time is wasting energy, which is why some non-working lines can be a little more difficult to live with. A working dog must have all of their drives balanced. The high energy must be paired with self control. The desire to work must be mellowed by the ability to do nothing when asked. Intelligence must be paired with cooperation. A dog who is physically capable of running at a gallop for hours day after day should also easily relax. Weimaraners are excellent family dogs when they have an adequate outlet for their intelligence and sense of humor. They are a "dog with a human brain" and are best managed by an owner who is consistent and understands their need to work with their humans. I do recommend that all of my owners have a job for their puppies, and maybe even try some hunting--you may be amazed when you see your pup click into drive and want more!
