When chosing a stud dog, I factor in his work ethic, trainability, bird finding, intelligence, stamina, conformation, and overall pedigree among other things. I work hard to avoid using popular studs as genetic diversity is an important part of my breeding program. I have been blessed to use some of the nicest males in our breed and I am grateful to them and their owners!

I have also used many of our own stud dogs and I try to make it a point to use my males prior to offering them at stud to the public. I don't recommend a male unless I've seen what they produce and feel comfortable with it. Any "test matings" with a young male are mine, and I never put that on a breeder who comes to me for recommendations.
